Tashkent International Airport (TAS)

About Tashkent Airport

Tashkent International Airport (IATA code TAS), officially named after Islam Karimov, is the largest airport in Uzbekistan and serves the capital, Tashkent. It is located within the city, south of the centre, so the trip into town is usually short.

The airport is the main hub of Uzbekistan Airways and the principal entry point for visitors to the country. From Tashkent, many travellers continue by domestic flight or by train to the historic Silk Road cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. International and domestic flights use separate terminals, so make sure you know which one you need.

Getting to the city centre

Because the airport is close to the city, transfers are usually quick:

• Taxi and ride-hailing apps — the most popular choice; using an app helps you know the fare in advance.
• City buses — public routes connect the airport area with different parts of Tashkent.
• Hotel transfer — convenient for late arrivals.

Public transport details change from time to time, so check the official airport information or ask your hotel before you travel.

Practical tips

A few simple habits make the airport part of your trip much smoother:

• Use online check-in where available and keep your boarding pass on your phone or printed.
• Confirm the terminal on your ticket shortly before departure, as airlines occasionally change terminals.
• Keep liquids, chargers and documents easy to reach to speed up the security check.
• If you plan to continue to Samarkand or Bukhara, compare domestic flights with the train and leave a buffer between connections.
