Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO)

About Rome Fiumicino Airport

Rome Fiumicino Airport (IATA code FCO), officially Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino, is the largest airport in Italy and the main gateway to Rome. It is located near the coast in the town of Fiumicino, south-west of the Italian capital.

The airport is the main hub of ITA Airways and handles most of Rome's long-haul and international traffic. Rome also has a smaller airport, Ciampino (CIA), which is used mainly by low-cost airlines, so check carefully which airport your ticket shows. From Fiumicino it is easy to start a trip not only to Rome but also to the Vatican and other parts of central Italy.

Getting to the city centre

Popular ways to reach the city:

• Leonardo Express — a non-stop airport train to Roma Termini, the city's main station.
• Regional trains — the FL1 line stops at several Rome stations, such as Trastevere and Tiburtina.
• Coaches — several bus companies run to Termini and other central points.
• Taxi — use the official white taxis from the rank outside arrivals.

Always validate rail tickets where required, and check current services on the official airport website.

Practical tips

A few simple habits make the airport part of your trip much smoother:

• Use online check-in where available and keep your boarding pass on your phone or printed.
• Confirm the terminal on your ticket shortly before departure, as airlines occasionally change terminals.
• Keep liquids, chargers and documents easy to reach to speed up the security check.
• Fiumicino has several terminal areas, so check the terminal on your booking and on the airport departure boards.
